As my trip to Panama is approaching soon I am looking for some gifts for my little sister. Here are some of my favorites, found from the iconic and always part of the lip culture, Lip Smacker.
WHY SO ICONIC?
In 1973, Bonne Bell introduced flavored lip pomade called “Lip Smackers”. The first flavors launched were strawberry, green apple, and orange chocolate. Considered the cosmetic of choice for school-aged girls all over the world.
Bonne Bell partnered its Lip Smackers brand with many confectionery brands. In 1975, Bonne Bell created its first partnership with Dr. Pepper to create Dr. Pepper flavored lip gloss. Lip Smackers has also partnered with brands like Mars, The Coca-Cola Company, and many Disney brands.
In 2014, Swarovski partnered with Lip Smacker to produce three of their biggies, a larger version of a normal Lip Smacker, covered in over five hundred genuine Swarovski crystals. The Swarovski Lip Smacker biggies are priced at $250.00 each, making them the most expensive lip product compared to the likes of MAC or Lancôme. In 2015, Bonne Bell sold the Lip Smacker to Markwins International.
Today, this brand is a legendary icon of lip balms with many flavors, ranging from Berry Peach and the best-selling Dr. Pepper flavored lip gloss to Watermelon Cherry Kool-Aid and Rock Candy. The company has updated the formulas, too; now, in addition to the original moisturizing version, there are also shimmery, iridescent and liquid versions.
